About Us

Gallatin Publishing Company is a corporation owned by Darryl and Liz Wilkinson. While raising a family of four children, the Wilkinsons have worked in journalism as a team since the start of their marriage. Both were members of the student newspaper staff at Northwest Missouri State University at Maryville. Darryl and Liz then worked briefly at the Ida County Courier-Reminder in Ida Grove, Iowa, before operating The Times-Tribune at Grant City, Mo., for about two years. The Wilkinsons moved to Gallatin, Mo., in 1978.

The Wilkinsons have received numerous awards in competition among other newspapers sponsored by the Missouri Press Association, including the 1999 Tilghman Cloud Memorial Editorial Award (Weeklies). Darryl served as president of Northwest Missouri Press Association in 1985. He was named Missouri Volunteer of the Year for 1994 by the Southern Industrial Development Council for helping initiate and create jobs through Gallatin Industrial Development Authority. Both are active in many community and church affairs.

GALLATIN NORTH MISSOURIAN
The flagship publication for Gallatin Publishing Company is the rural county seat weekly newspaper for Daviess County, the Gallatin North Missourian.
 The first issue of the North Missourian was printed on Aug. 28, 1864. A number of distinguished publishers served under this flag, including Wesley L. Robertson, who is recognized as Missouri's newspaper martyr after being shot and killed in 1919 while performing his journalistic duties. The North Missourian changed to tabloid format in 1996 with the advent of desktop publishing capabilities. The newspaper's present paid circulation is 2,000 copies each week.

Gallatin Publishing encompass a variety of services requiring a wide range of skills. Collectively, employees at Gallatin Publishing Company represent decades of business experience. Plant foreman Leroy Pryor is a longtime printer from Braymer where he once published the weekly newspaper, The Braymer Bee. Junior Evans has been with Gallatin Publishing Company since its inception in the 1960s.

THE AD PAGES - WEST

A 10,000-copy weekly shopper is also published by Gallatin Publishing Company. This is a sister publication to the Ad Pages - East in Chillicothe. This shopper was established in February 2007, and continues the quality and service that was previously provided to advertisers under the name "Pony Express," when Gallatin Publishing Company was partnered with three other newspaper publishers.

This 10,000-copy weekly shopper, purchased by Gallatin Publishing Company in October of 2004, saturates Chillicothe and all of Livingston County. Featured columnist spotlighting Chillicothe and news from the area is Chuck Haney. The publication is owned by Gallatin Publishing Company.

LAKE VIKING NEWS
Lake Viking News is another publication owned and distributed by Gallatin Publishing Company. This monthly tabloid newspaper is delivered to each lake lot owner, serving as a communications tool for the 1,600-acre private residential lake development west of Gallatin, Lake Viking. The lake community is also served by www.lakevikingmo.com which is designed and hosted by GranDesign.

Besides publishing its own publications, Gallatin Publishing Company is the printer for about a dozen other weekly newspaper and shopper publications. It also prints monthly editions for several organizations and fraternities and a wide variety of other publications, including books and pamphlets, distributed at regular and irregular intervals.
