Enlighten your mind and inspire others by participating in a summer art workshop, featuring Shannon Christensen, local artist and member of the Portrait Society of America. The workshop will be held at Penney High School in Hamilton during the week of Aug. 9-13. Registration for the workshop is now open online at www.confidencetolearn.com or by calling 660-749-5389.

The workshop features three classes, according to age group, and an art show on Friday at 6 p.m. for students to share their art work.

In the first class, Copy Cat Kids, children between the ages of nine and 12 cultivate their drawing skills as they imitate the works of past and present masters and learn line and value. There is a charge for the classes (which includes the cost of materials) per child and will be Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday from 12:30 to 1:15 p.m.

The second class, Body Basics, for ages 13 to 17, helps students develop their sketching skills as they learn the basics of drawing the human figure. Classes will be Monday, Tuesday and Thursday from 1:30 to 2:15 p.m. There is a charge for the instruction and materials.

In Black and White Basics (ages 18 and up), adults immerse themselves in the wide world of black and white as Shannon Christensen helps them explore artistic value with oil paints. The class includes a masterful demonstration and then leaves the students at liberty to paint any still life they desire. Some drawing and oil painting experience is suggested. Classes will be Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday from 2:30 to 4:30. There is a charge for the classes, which includes instruction and materials.

The workshop is sponsored by Confidence to Learn, a local non-profit organization, and other local businesses.
