North Daviess sets tax rate hearing; school starts Aug. 18

The Tax Rate Hearing for North Daviess School District will begin at 7:15 on Tuesday, Aug. 17 in Jameson.

School will start on Aug. 18, 2010.

In other business at the meeting of the North Daviess R-3 Board of Education held Monday, July 19, final enrollment during the 2009 – 2010 school year was reported at 80 students. Grades K-12 had six more students than the previous school year and 10 students participated in preschool.

Mrs. Morris reported that the summer building improvements were coming along. There are some improvements in the cafeteria at the elementary school that will need to be completed. The green house and the ball field fence will be finished in time. Mrs. Morris also presented a quote to repair the guttering at the high school building and brick work at the elementary building.

Mrs. Morris presented the current financial information concerning the school health services and PAT Program.

Bids were accpeted from Mefford’s for pest control; A&E for milk; MFA Oil for diesel fuel; American Fire and safety for fire extinguisher services; Veolia Environmental Services for trash removal.

The board agreed to adhere to federal guidelines for the lunch program by a vote of 4 yes, 1 no.

Student handbooks were adopted as presented.

IDEA guidelines for the special education program will be followed. Motion carried 4 yes, 1 no.

Daniel Weese was designated as the technology coordinator.

Mrs. Morris reported that the students went to the Royals game and that they all had a very good time.

The board entered into executive session for employee matters.

The PAT Agreement with Susan Jones was not extended. A PAT Agreement was offered Angie McCrary. Cecil McCrary abstained from both votes.

Next board meeting is at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 17, 2010, at Jameson.

The above are the unapproved minutes. Board members present were Jeremy Hunter, Axel Olson, Jason Lewis, Cecil McCrary and Jessica Nelson. Board members absent were Lee Courter and Debbie Ray. Also present were Superintendent Becky Morris; Board Secretary Jeremy Hunter; Beverly Ward and Linda Landes.
