Daviess County Courthouse News (2-3-2010) - Maysville man held for sex crimes against 5-year-old

 Sheriff’s OfficeJason Short, 27, Maysville, was charged Jan. 30 with child molestation first degree, statutory sodomy first degree, and sexual misconduct first degree. Short is accused of sex acts with a 5-year-old male child at a Winston residence. The probable cause statement alleges that these acts regularly occurred on Friday nights following a family meal, between November 2009 and January 22, 2010. Short has been convicted in the past of assaulting law enforcement officers. He is being held at the regional jail on $85,000 bond.

Cynthia Benson, 42, and Stuart Ross, 44, both of Kansas City, were arrested Jan. 27 in a traffic stop on I-35. They were each charged with three counts of felony possession of controlled substance, one felony count of drug paraphernalia-amphetamine/methamphetamine, and misdemeanor counts of possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia. They are being held at the regional jail on $35,000 bond each.

Brenda Wilson, 45, Pattonsburg was arrested Jan. 29, charged with misdemeanor unlawful use of drug paraphernalia. She was also held for 24 hours during an investigation for stealing.

Wesley Kriegel, 51, Toledo, Iowa, was charged Jan. 27 with probation violations for felony theft. He is being held on $50,000 bond.

Tesla Davis, 18, and Joshua Rosemann, 20, both of Altamont, were arrested Jan. 29 for possession of marijuana. They were held for 24 hours.

Brandon Jones, 25, Gallatin, was charged Feb. 1 with a probation violation on an original charge of non-support, class D felony. Bond was denied.

James Gallup of Altamont reported Feb. 1 that medications which were mailed to him by the Veterans Administration in early January never arrived. His mailbox is located across the road from his home.

County Commission

James Lewis, bridge supervisor, met with the commission reporting that they will make repairs on equipment and other repairs as needed this week.

Danny Heldenbrand reported having attended a transportation advisory committee meeting on Friday, Jan. 22, discussing proposals for upcoming projects in District 1.

The commission reviewed the 2010 budgets, making changes where needed.

Mike Youngs, Coffey Fire Protection District, met with the commission reporting on progress they have made in additions to the membership. Also, they are planning to upgrade equipment.

Ben Becerra, sheriff, met with the Commission to discuss his budget.

Phillip Showalter, Lock Springs Special Road District, met with the commission concerning pipe delivery, brush control and gravel.

At 1:30 p.m., as advertised, the public hearing for the 2010 budget hearing was held. Sheriff Ben Becerra was in attendance. Danny Heldenbrand moved that the budget appropriation be made as finalized and submitted by the budget officer. David Cox seconded. Cox – yes; Heldenbrand – yes; Critten – yes.

These are the approved minutes of Jan. 25, 2010. All commissioners were present.

Circuit Court

On Friday, Feb. 5, before Judge Roger Prokes, five cases against Daniel F. Froman of Gallatin are scheduled. There will be a pre-trial conference for a case involving one felony charge of sexual assault and two felony charges of tampering with a witness in a felony prosecution.

Two cases, Grinnell Mutual vs. Daniel Froman etal and Berten etal vs. Daniel Froman etal, are scheduled for trial setting. Case management conferences are set in State of Missouri ex rel vs. Danny Froman etal, and State of Missouri ex rel vs. Daniel Fallis Froman.

Before Judge James Valbracht on Jan. 28, two cases were heard:

Richard K. Brown plead guilty to stealing, class C felony, and a sentence assessment report was ordered.

Andrew Hearne Megaris plead guilty to possession of a controlled substance, class C felony, for which he received a suspended imposition of sentence and five years probation. On a guilty plea to possession of marijuana while driving, class A misdemeanor, he received a suspended imposition of sentence and two years probation.

Cases bound over from Associate Division to Circuit Court: State vs. Bobby R. Wheelbarger, Bogard, DWI, alcohol, persistent offender, operated vehicle without valid license, class A misdemeanor; State vs. Jeffrey Joe Crosthwait, Kansas City, DWI, chronic offender, class B felony, driving while revoked, class D felony, possession of marijuana, class A misdemeanor, unlawful use of drug paraphernalia, class A misdemeanor; State vs. Jaime J. Lee, Trenton, possession of controlled substance, class C felony, careless and imprudent, class A misdemeanor, failure to maintain financial responsibility, class C misdemeanor.

Civil cases filed: Charles A. Curtis vs. Christina A. Curtis, dissolution; Wells Fargo Bank NV vs. Michael H. Forster, breach of contract; Steve Meseberg DBA Absolute vs. Ingrid Labezzetta, mechanic’s lien; State ex rel vs. David C.
