Police arrest Gallatin man on charges of child molestation

On Thursday, Feb. 2, 2012, Gallatin Police arrested 31-year-old Carl E. Holcomb Jr. of Gallatin on charges of child molestation in the first degree (Class B Felony) and distribution of tobacco products to a minor (Infraction).

Fatality truck accident, spill closes southbound I-35
On February 3, 2012, at 1:10 a.m. a northbound tractor trailer crossed the median on Interstate 35, at the 61-mile marker in Daviess County, and struck a southbound tractor trailer head-on.

Keys, mold, smoke all in the mix for county budget

Lost keys, mold in the storage facility, the smoking policy and the sheriff’s budget were all subjects thrown into the mix during a meeting to discuss the county budget on Jan. 9 held at the Daviess County Courthouse. County Commissioners David Cox, Carl Carder, and Randy Sims presided over the gathering of county officials.

Former jail administrator arrested on theft charges

The Daviess County Sheriff’s Office arrested Larry Hadley, former administrator of the Daviess-DeKalb Regional Jail, on Jan. 27. Hadley, 45, St. Joseph, was charged with two class C felonies, theft and theft of a firearm.

During a meeting held Jan. 11, the Pattonsburg Board of Aldermen reported that the Methyl-Tertiary-Butyl-Ether (MTBE) litigation is final and a cash settlement for $390,748.95 has been issued.

North Daviess discusses finances, no bids for snow removal

Superintendent Becky Morris reported on a teleconference from the governors’ office during the regular meeting of the North Daviess R-3 School Board held Jan. 16. Gov. Nixon is going to recommend $5 million increase in state funding for education. There will be more discussion on the school budget next month.

Winston R-6 extends superintendent’s contract by one year

The board approved an extension of one year to Superintendent Brian Robinson’s contract, thus maintaining a three year contract during the regular meeting of the Winston R-6 School Board held Jan. 19.

Hunter education course at Swan Lake Feb. 8-10

The Swan Lake National Wildlife Refuge will sponsor a Hunter Education Course beginning on Wednesday Feb. 8, from 6-9 p.m.; on Thursday, Feb. 9, from 6-9 p.m; and on Friday, Feb. 10, from 6-9 p.m., at the Swan Lake Visitor Center located two miles south of Sumner.

State cost-share sign up

Daviess County Soil and Water Conservation District state cost-share sign up begins Wednesday, Feb. 1-29 at the USDA Service Center in Gallatin. Applications are only accepted during February. Funds will become available after July 1, 2012, and continues through June 30, 2013.

USDA offers cover crop assistance

The USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service has announced that they will be offering financial and technical assistance to landowners interested in establishing cover crops on their land. Cover Crop incentives will be offered through the Environmental Quality Incentives Program (EQIP).

Fifth Outdoor Classic March 10-11

The Fifth Annual North Missouri Outdoor Classic will be held March 10-11 at the Chillicothe High School. The annual event is sponsored by the North Missouri Sportsman’s Alliance (NMSA), a non-profit organization based in Linn, Livingston, Carroll and Daviess counties.
